THE PLAN

An Opportunity to Benefit Our Entire Community

When plans for a new elementary and middle school included demolishing this venue, a group of concerned residents formed a nonprofit -- now know as the Cultural Center of Henry County  -- to gather expert advice on renovation costs for the facility and its surrounding components, aiming to develop a multi-purpose center that serves both current and future residents.

Architectural Significance

A distinguishing feature of the building is its grand façade with three large arches marking the entrance, a hallmark of Neo-Collegiate design, which was popular during that era. This architectural style, influenced by Gothic Revival, was often used in academic institutions to convey tradition, prestige, and longevity. The historic JLJ Auditorium is Napoleon's only indoor venue with permanent seating, quality sound and staging to accommodate larger productions.

Updated Vision and Mission

CCHC's updated vision and mission adds depth by explicitly tying into the building's historic architecture, using the "Three Arches Ohio" metaphor as a central, unifying, and symbolic theme.

Vision

Three Arches Ohio: A Gateway to Community and Growth
Rooted in its historic architecture, Three Arches Ohio serves as a vibrant hub that bridges generations, connects people, and contributes to our state's cultural and economic prosperity.

Mission

Three Arches Ohio: Where Everyone Gathers

To create a thriving center that reflects the unifying spirit of its architectural arches, offering enriching opportunities in arts, education, athletics, and wellness. By fostering engagement among youth, adults, and seniors, we aim to support a flourishing, inclusive community where individuals of all generations can connect, grow, and thrive.

Additional Website

The organization realizes that its website - culturalcenterhc.org - can sometimes be difficult to remember. Content can now also be accessed via: ThreeArchesOhio.com (as well as ThreeArchesOhio.org.) Supporters are encouraged to share either website name—they all direct to the same site.

Our renovation plan establishes a state-of-the-art community hub that fully utilizes the property's cafeteria and reception hall space, meeting rooms, visual and performing arts auditorium, and gymnasium areas.  The multi-purpose facility will also serve as a gathering place for many residents and community organizations.

We recognize there may be multiple phases in such an undertaking including re-establishing occupancy with varied educational programs.

Auditorium in Great Shape

Everyone touring the JLJ Auditorium is stunned and thrilled to see that the building remains in excellent shape.  Restoration of the Auditorium is the cornerstone of this project.

Repurposing Initiatives Positively Impacting Communities

While the CCHC Community Hub project is multi-faceted—supporting the arts, education, athletics, and community experiences—we are not reinventing the wheel. Many communities have successfully repurposed former schools and venues, demonstrating the powerful economic and social benefits these projects offer to current and future residents. Below are just a few examples.

Exciting News & A Call to Action for Napoleon!

We are thrilled to see a neighboring community moving forward with their plans to transform a former school —proof that projects like these can become reality with the right support.

Here in Napoleon, our vision for revitalizing the former school on Main Street into a vibrant community hub for arts, education, and athletics remains just as strong. With its rich history and the JLJ Auditorium—the only venue in our area with permanent seating—our building is an architectural gem worth preserving.

Now more than ever, we need your voice! Show your support by reaching out to our city officials, making a donation, or getting involved. Together, we can bring this vision to life.
